Gillian’s Island (Part 1)

$10.00

This is a humorous sketch about having our anchor in Christ, otherwise we could drift and become shipwrecked in our faith. It is obviously a take-off of a popular TV show from the 60’s.

SKU: 076 Categories: , , Tags: ,

Two gals, Pepper and Carrie Anne have met and are taking a short cruise around Catalina Island with a female skipper. But the skipper gets off the boat to gas up and the girls fall asleep to wake up and find that they have drifted way out to sea. Pepper is played over the top as a dumb actress and they deal with possible sharks and rocks and the fear of shipwreck. Even though they cry out to God in prayer… they find themselves at the end on an island where someone named Gillian is also stranded. There are sequels that you can get to follow this sketch, parts 2 and 3. Or if you want all three, go to the general Christian script category and scroll till you find “Gillian’s Island – The Play”. You save a little money by buying the play rather than the three skits.

3 females plus one extra. About 12-13 min. (the part of Skippie could be played as a male)

Excerpt:

There is a sound of wind and waves splashing on the sides of the boat. The girls suddenly wake up.
CARRIE ANNE
Wow…I actually fell asleep. I wonder what time it….
(Suddenly looks around and realizes where they are)
Pepper!! Wake up!
PEPPER
Ooohh… I was having this dream. There was this really handsome man…
CARRIE ANNE
Never mind that! Look where we are!
PEPPER
Wow…we’re a long ways out. I don’t even see land. Why is Skippie taking us way out here?
CARRIE ANNE
She’s not!
PEPPER
What do you mean? Of course she…
CARRIE ANNE
She’s not even on the boat!
PEPPER
You mean….we’re alone???
CARRIE ANNE
Yes…I can’t figure out how this happened!
She starts pulling in the rope.
CARRIE ANNE
The rope came undone or something. She didn’t drop the anchor either…so we have drifted out to sea while we were sleeping.
PEPPER
I hope this doesn’t mean that I’ll miss my nail appointment.
She pulls out her cell phone and looks at it.
PEPPER
Oh…it’s 3:00 already! I better call them and let them know why I’m late.
She tries using her phone.
CARRIE ANNE
Forget your silly appointment! Call for help! We’ve got serious problems here!
PEPPER
Don’t yell…you’re scaring me. Oh…there’s no little stair- step bar thingies.
CARRIE ANNE
That figures.
PEPPER
Hey…Do you know how to drive a boat?
CARRIE ANNE
How hard can it be?
(She looks around at the steering area)
Looks like she took the key with her, and we don’t have much gas.
PEPPER
Maybe you could hot wire it. We did that in a movie once.
CARRIE ANNE
Do you know how to do that?
PEPPER
No. It was just a movie…so it wasn’t real.
CARRIE ANNE
It’s no use anyway. There’s not much gas…and which direction would we go?
PEPPER
So…I guess we just wait to be rescued. Do you have a mirror on you?
CARRIE ANNE
A mirror?
PEPPER
Yes…I want to check my hair and make-up before the rescue men get here.
CARRIE ANNE
Pepper! Don’t you realize how serious this is? They may not know where to find us!
PEPPER
Well, that’s very unprofessional. I may ask for a refund.
There is a thud sound on the side of the boat.
CARRIE ANNE
What was that? Something hit the boat.
(She looks over the side)
There’s something down there.
The “Jaws” music starts playing.
PEPPER
What’s down there?
CARRIE ANNE
It could be a shark…or maybe several.
PEPPER
Really? Oh, I hate sharks.
CARRIE ANNE
Well, I’m not crazy about them either!
PEPPER
You know, I was all on board to do “Jaws 5”, but then it never got made.
CARRIE ANNE
Pepper…do you believe in God?
PEPPER
Well, I went to Sunday School once with a friend of mine when I was little. And I always say “one nation under God” when I say the pledge of allegiance…does that count?
CARRIE ANNE
It’s going to have to count for something because right now, God is our only hope of getting out of this mess.
PEPPER
Carrie Anne…maybe you should pray for us. This method acting stuff is for the birds! What good is it if I don’t survive?
(Carrie Anne looks at her very puzzled)
The Titanic play.
(Carrie Anne rolls her eyes and sighs)
Just pray, okay?
They join hands.
CARRIE ANNE
Dear Lord God…You are our only hope. We don’t know where we have drifted off to and we don’t know how to get back. Please rescue us God and if you do we promise…
(She looks at Pepper and Pepper nods)
…we will go back to church and stay close to you and read the Bible and help the homeless and…
PEPPER
…and donate my designer clothes to the poor – or at least most of them!
CARRIE ANNE
Amen.
PEPPER
Amen. Do you think it worked?
CARRIE ANNE
I don’t know. Maybe it depends on how sincere we were.
PEPPER
Did I sound sincere?
CARRIE ANNE
You’re an actress, Pepper…I’m sure you can act like you’re sincere…but don’t you think God really knows?
PEPPER
Uh oh. I might not have been real sincere about the clothes part….or about the church part either. But I was sincere about wanting to be rescued!
CARRIE ANNE
At least your honest. Wait! What was that?
PEPPER
We’re moving.
CARRIE ANNE
Rather fast, too. Like something is pulling us.
PEPPER
The shark! I saw this in Jaws! It was really scary!
CARRIE ANNE
No…look! They aren’t sharks… its a bunch of dolphins! The dolphins are pulling us! I think he hooked his fin in the loop in the rope!
PEPPER
What would dolphins want with us?
CARRIE ANNE
Look…they’re taking us to land! I see land! Over there!
PEPPER
I see land, too! Yes!
They excitedly jump up and down and hug each other and scream about the land.
PEPPER
I’ll never eat another dolphin as long as I live!
CARRIE ANNE
What?
PEPPER
Mahi Mahi.
CARRIE ANNE
Different kind of dolphin. You know, we’re moving pretty fast toward that island and these dolphins won’t want to go that close to shore…I wouldn’t think. So, when they let us go…we’ll hopefully just drift on in.
PEPPER
It looks like God has heard us and answered our prayer!
CARRIE ANNE
You’re right. In spite of your insincerity.
PEPPER
Well, God doesn’t want us to die, right?
CARRIE ANNE
I don’t know about that…but I do remember a verse in the Bible that talks about our steadfast hope in God is like an anchor of the soul.
PEPPER
I don’t know what that means…but it sounds real soothing when you say it.
CARRIE ANNE
There was an old song we used to sing…”we have an anchor that keeps the soul…steadfast and sure…(Stops to think) while the billows roll.”
PEPPER
What are those big things sticking up out of the water up there?
CARRIE ANNE
Oh…those are rocks.
(She suddenly realizes and panics)
Rocks??!! We’re headed right for the rocks!
PEPPER
Is that bad?
CARRIE ANNE
We’ll crash into them!
PEPPER
That could hurt, huh?
CARRIE ANNE
Shut up and pray! Oh…why did I ever fall asleep? That was so careless! We should not have been sleeping on the boat! If we had stayed awake and stayed alert and focused, we would have noticed that we were starting to drift from the shore! Now we could end up being shipwrecked!
PEPPER
So much for God helping us and being an anchor and all that…
CARRIE ANNE
Pepper! She didn’t mean it, God! Wait! An anchor! That’s it! We need one! Look for an anchor!
PEPPER
(holds up an anchor)
What’s this thing?
CARRIE ANNE
That’s it! Throw it overboard!
PEPPER
I thought you said we needed it!
CARRIE ANNE
Just do it! It is attached to the boat and when it catches on a rock, it will stop the boat!
Pepper tosses it over the side of the boat and then she clings to Carrie Anne in fear.
PEPPER
Is it working?
CARRIE ANNE
I don’t know.
They get a sudden jerk and then it stops.
PEPPER
(Eyes closed tight)
Are we dead?
