Resurrection Rabbit

$15.00

In this EASTER skit, Mikey is having his annual Easter Egg hunt at his place and all his friends have come. But Mikey is focused too much on the Easter Bunny and gets into a discussion with one of the other kids on what Easter is really about.

Then Mikey falls asleep and in his dream, the Easter Bunny comes and tells him that he is now saved and has changed his name to Resurrection Rabbit. He explains the true meaning of Easter, and tells the kids that instead of passing out candy, he now just tells people about Jesus. The salvation message is very clear.

6 child actors (boys or girls, it doesn’t matter) and one teen or adult playing the bunny. About 10-12 minutes.   (I have done this with puppets)

CAST OF CHARACTERS:

RESURRECTION RABBIT:  A large child or an adult in a bunny costume, or just with some fake bunny ears, to make it humorous.  Largest part.

MIKEY:  The boy who hosts the egg hunt and believes in the Easter Bunny.  Lead part.

HEATHER:  Mikey’s friend who tries to tell him the truth.

TAYLOR, JULIANNA, SCOTT, JACOB:  Mikey’s other friends.

EXTRAS:  More kids with no lines.

Excerpt:

JACOB: Hey, my name is Jacob!.

RR: (goes over and shakes his hand) Pleased to meet you, Jake, my

boy! My name is Resurrection Rabbit!

ALL THE KIDS: Resurrection Rabbit?!

RR: Just call me RR for short.

MIKEY: What kind of a name is Resurrection Rabbit?

RR: Well, it’s a lot better than Easter Bunny! Let me explain.

Easter has been getting a bad rap over the years. It is really all
my fault. Because of me, no one knew what Easter was really all
about. Easter is really Resurrection Sunday. The day that Jesus
rose from the dead! But down through the years, a whole other
holiday has been built up with me and Easter eggs and candy… you
know all about it, Mikey. You were one of my biggest followers.

JULIANNA: So, you’re not going to bring us candy anymore?

RR: Nope. I’m delivering a new message! I’ve been redeemed! I got

saved saved saved! I’m washed in the blood of the Lamb! No longer
the Easter Bunny, no longer living the lie! Now I am Resurrection
Rabbit, and I will bring the good news to everyone that Jesus Christ
is alive! He rose from the grave and ascended into heaven, and He
is coming back to get us some day, and take us all to heaven with Him.
(he starts skipping around again and singing “Christ the Lord is
Risen today”)

MIKEY: (interrupts) But why change? Why not stay the Easter Bunny?

RR: Because we all have to change! Jesus said that you must be born

again! You see, that is why he came. You did know that Christmas is
when we celebrate Jesus being born in a manger?

MIKEY: Of course. Everybody knows that.

HEATHER: Not everybody, Mikey.

RR: Heather is right. Not everybody knows. But I’m glad you do.

You see, God sent His only Son to earth to become a man and to die
for all our sins on the cross.

MIKEY: What sins?

RR: Your sins…my sins….all of our sins! We are all sinners. And

the punishment for sin is death! But Jesus took that punishment for
us. He died in our place. We must believe in Him and through Him
we can find eternal life. We are born again!

MIKEY: But how can you be born again? You can only be born once!

Even I know that!

RR: You are very smart Mikey. The second birth is quite different

from the first one. It is a spiritual birth. You must believe.
Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, the life, and no one comes to
the Father but through Me.” So you see, the only way to get to
heaven is to believe in Jesus.

MIKEY: You mean the way I believed in the Easter Bunny?

RR: No, not like that. You only believed with your mind. As you

got older, you would eventually throw away all that belief in the
Easter Bunny. Believing in Jesus is done with your heart. And once
you do it, it lasts for all eternity! (he starts skipping around
the stage again and sings “Up from the grave he arose…” The
children start skipping in behind him. Then he stops and they stop)
And on Resurrection morning, Jesus rose from the grave, and showed
us all that some day we will come back from the dead too and be caught
up to meet Jesus in the air and He will take us all to heaven! That
is if you are His child and your name is written in the Lamb’s Book
of Life.

SCOTT: What’s that?

RR: That’s the book where Jesus writes your name when you get saved.

TAYLOR: Is my name there?

JULIANNA: Is my name there?

HEATHER: Is my name there?

JACOB: Is my name there?

SCOTT: Is my name there?

MIKEY: Is my name there?

RR: I don’t know. I have not seen the book. But if I were you, I

would make sure! Why…you could all be saved today, and have your
names added right under Resurrection Rabbit! (he starts skipping
about again and singing, “Christ the Lord is risen today… Allelujah”)
For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son that
whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting
life!

JULIANNA: What’s in the basket, Resurrection Rabbit? Do you have

some candy for us?

RR: NO! You can have candy any old time! What I have is something

really special. These are invitations to attend an Easter service
at the church down the street where they really know how to celebrate
Resurrection Day! If you go there, you will learn all about it!
(He hands each one an invitation. Then he skips off singing and they
all skip off after him except Mikey, who just looks at the
invitation and then falls back to sleep. The kids come back on with
their baskets full of eggs and without the invitations and they stop
and look at Mikey sleeping)

TAYLOR: Hey Mikey! What are you doin? We found all the eggs and

you’re sleepin!

MIKEY: I had a dream! I remember it really well!

HEATHER: Tell us, Mikey!

MIKEY: Well, you were all there! And we were right here. And the

Easter Bunny came by. (they all laugh) No, listen. He wasn’t the
Easter Bunny anymore, because he got saved, and now he is
Resurrection Rabbit! And he told us all about how we must be born
again. And then he gave us all an invitation to an Easter service
at the church down the street.

SCOTT: And you just now dreamed all of that?

MIKEY: Yeah… it was all a dream. But it felt very real.

TAYLOR: So, Mikey, what is that you are holding in your hand?

MIKEY: It is the invitation that he gave me. (he realizes what he

just said and looks at the others in amazement, they all look at each
other and back at him.)

The congregation loved Resurrection Rabbit!!! I had my youth department act out the play and we also discussed the meaning of the play. I was amazed at how well they understood the message. God has blessed you with a great gift; I hope you will continue to write. May God bless you and your ministry.

We are a small Church and our youth group includes 5 to 14 year old’s. I was looking for something that would cover our age group and wouldn’t require a lot of costumes or props. I never expected to find anything this perfect. It has a powerful meaning, it’s upbeat, funny, seems fairly easy to perform, and the younger kids can have a part by just following along! It’s a great play – keep up the good work! God Bless

I just wanted you to know, the youth group at Truth Fellowship performed your play, Resurrection Rabbit. I rented a formal rabbit costume. With a mixture of high-school kids and really young kids, it was absolutely WONDERFUL. We ended up having to perform the play on Easter morning! Six accepted Jesus into their hearts that very day…and there were 7 re-dedications. The children will never forget it. May God Bless your work.
