Snowbound

Curt is left in charge, and he finds himself being a spiritual leader to the group while their sponsor goes for help. Jill is there with her unsaved boyfriend, and she discovers that an unequally yoked relationship is not good. Howard learns that he needs to rely on the power of the Holy Spirit rather than his intellect. There is fun interaction between the characters.. some of the dialogue will give away the 80’s time frame. This can be changed.There are 15 characters, 8 men and 7 women.. it can be adjusted to as few as 5 men and 6-8 women. All teen and young adult. 50-60 minutes. One set.. no scene changes.

CAST:Curt: 122 lines. In his 20’s.. a spiritual leader.
Howard: 93 lines. 17-25. A bit stuffy, and very religious
Dennis: 88 lines. Early 20’s. a non-believer and Jill’s boyfriend
Jill: 68 lines. Having doubts about her and Dennis
Karen: 45 lines. In her 20’s. Worldly past.
Jane: 45 lines. A bit pessimistic
Misty: 34 lines. Teenager. A valley girl
Pete: 32 lines. Youth sponsor. 25+ Oldest one.
Tracey: 27 lines. Teenager. Quiet and sweet.
Greg: 26 lines. A non-believer
Cindy: 21 lines. Teenager. Misty’s best friend
Clay: 10 lines
Joe: 9 lines. A non-believer
Barbara: 3 lines
Tim: 1 lineThe play has 8 actors and 7 actresses. You can adapt the script to fit your cast easily by changing some of the characters from boy to girl and visa versa. The character of Greg can easily be a girl and the characters Barbara and Tim and Clay can be eliminated and the lines said by someone else. The play should run 50 to 60 minutes. No scene changes… just one scene: the living room of a cabin.

Excerpt:

SCENE 2(The next morning, the girls are rustling in their sleeping bags. One girl is in a chair reading her Bible. There’s a loud knock on the door)CLAY: (offstage) Hey are you girls awake in there? (The girls all start screaming “No, don’t come in”) Just wanted to know if you looked out the window this morning. Looks like we’re going to have a white Christmas!MISTY: What’s he talking about?

CINDY: Christmas isn’t until tomorrow!

CLAY: That’s right.

CINDY: Are we snowed in? (And they all start screaming again, “oh no, are we?)

KAREN: Is he just kidding around?

MISTY: Are you serious?

KAREN: (looks out the window) I can’t see a thing. Just snow everywhere.

CLAY: I have something else to tell you.

MISTY: Go away, you’re bumming me out.

CLAY: We need to get in there because the phone is in there. We need to call in to town, that is if we can.

KAREN: (Picks up the phone) There’s no dial tone. Are you sure this phone works?

CLAY: It did yesterday. The lines must be down or something.

CINDY: You mean we’re stranded with no phone?

JANE: But I’ve got to get home. I’m not staying here for Christmas!

CINDY: Do you have much choice in the matter?

BARBARA: Maybe we could bring in a helicopter!

JANE: Where’s it going to land?

BARBARA: It could drop off some sleds and skis. I can cross- country ski.

CLAY: So, can we come in or not?

CINDY: Okay, but we’ll have to stay inside our sleeping bags. (So the door opens, and Curt and Pete and Clay enter)

PETE: We’ve got a problem here. And that is that we’re snowed in. We have no phone, and no way of communicating to the town to find out if the roads are clear, or find out how long it will take to clear them, so that we can get out of here.(girls moan) Now don’t get upset. I realize we were supposed to leave this morning. We may not get out of here for awhile, but hopefully we will get out of here sometime today, and get you home before it’s too late.

CLAY: Is there something wrong with Tracey?

KAREN: Tracey are you okay?

TRACEY: I don’t feel too good. I’m hot.

KAREN: (feels her forehead) She’s burning up.

PETE: (feels her forehead) Yes, she definitely has a fever. She’ll need a doctor.

TRACEY: I’ll be okay.

PETE: We’ll let the doctor decide that.

JANE: Where you going to find a doctor? We’re snowed in, remember?

PETE: We’re going to have to go into town and find help. I wasn’t going to do it, but now I know we’ll have to. I’ll take a couple of guys with me, Clay and Tim, and we’ll hike. It’s not that far.

TRACEY: I’m sorry you guys.

PETE: You just lay quiet and don’t worry about it. Curt, I’m going to leave you in charge. As for the rest of you, I want you to do a lot of praying, and I want someone to stay with Tracey at all times. Take her someplace quiet. Karen, would you make sure that Tracey is okay? nd you guys trust the Lord and everything will be okay.

JANE: Do you really think that hiking in to town is safe? Isn’t it kind of dangerous?

PETE: Oh, I don’t think so, it’s not that far. We’ve been tromping around in the snow all weekend, I think it’ll be all right. We’ll be leaving as soon as possible. I’ve got to talk to the rest of the guys. Lord willing, we’ll be able to get out of here today. See you all later, good bye. (good bye good bye)

JANE: Be careful.

MISTY: You know what totally bunks me?

JANE: What’s that?

MISTY: We’re on vacation. I mean, like, if only we were missing school or something, like, it would sure make getting snowed in a lot more rad. What are we missing? We’re missing Christmas! I mean, fer sure.

KAREN: Well, what have you got planned for us to do today, Curt?

CURT: Oh, I don’t know, I haven’t had time to think about it. Besides, you heard what he said, We’re supposed to work together. You guys have any suggestions?

JANE: Yeah, I have a suggestion.

CURT: What’s that?

JANE: Leave the room so we can get dressed.

CURT: Right. (he leaves)
