The Best Way To Live

$10.00

This play is a series of short stories that display good and bad actions. The theme is love and there are bad examples followed up by good ones. A little bit of humor, but mostly just a lesson in learning how to love, which is the best way to live.

The first scene is a church nursery worker who is having difficulty dealing with active kids. Scene two is a group of kids playing in the church yard who encounter some neighborhood kids and don’t ask them to play. Scene three takes place at a Christmas party where some siblings feel that they have an unloving father. Scene four is two old friends meeting after a long time and recalling the difficult event that separated them for years. The final scene is about young people planning a Christmas event for their class, and not wanting to go to the retirement home. All of them have happy endings. Each scene is also available as a separate skit with these titles: Love Is An Action, Love Is Not Arrogant, Love Is Not Provoked, Love Is Not Selfish and Love Covers All Wrongs. If you wish to use just some of the scenes as sketches…. buying this is still the most affordable way.  ( A great deal at only $10, when each of the skits are $5)

Cast of 36+ (8-10 women and 8-10 men plus 14 children- all ages) About 45 mins. Some actors could play more than one part.

Excerpt:

(A group of 16 kids (2nd – 8th grades) have gathered out in the grass
near the church, they begin to organize a game. Two of the bigger
kids take charge.)

KYLE: Lets pick two teams of eight and we will play freeze tag. Now
you have to try to remember who is on your team. One team will be
it, and everyone they tag must freeze. We will see how long it takes
to freeze the other team. Now the members of the other team, who
have not been tagged, can free their teammates. So if you are
tagging, say “tag” and if you are freeing, say “free”. I’ll be one
captain, and how about if Rachel is the other?

RACHEL: Okay! This will be fun!

KYLE: Rachel, you go first!

RACHEL: I pick Sara. (Each one after their name is called walks
over to join their captain.)

KYLE: I pick Andrew.

RACHEL: Rebecca.

KYLE: Justin.

SARA: Pick some boys! We need some boys on our team!

RACHEL: Okay. Kevin.

KYLE: Robbie.

RACHEL: Kelly.

KYLE: Leslie.

RACHEL: Terry.

KYLE: Kim.

RACHEL: Shelly.

KYLE: Shawn.

RACHEL: Chris

JUSTIN: Oh no! We get Sal! Let’s trade! Come on! We’ll take
Chris!

RACHEL: We’re not trading! You guys have to take Sal.

JUSTIN: He can’t play good! He just can’t run.

SAL: It’s okay. I don’t want to play anyway.

KYLE: No… you can play. Come on. I pick you.

ANDREW: You gotta try, Sal! Really try!

SAL: I do try.

KYLE: Okay. Rachel’s team is it. Ready? Go! (They all start
running around the stage and tagging each other and freezing. Just
play the game. 3 strangers approach (other kids) and they stand and
watch them play. The kids keep looking over at them and noticing
them standing there, but no one says hi or anything.)

JAKE: Hey! What are you playing?

KYLE: Freeze tag.

JAKE: Can we play?

KYLE: Uh…. well, we sort of have full teams. It would really get
crowded if we added any more.

JAKE: Do you guys go to this church?

ANDREW: Yeah. We are all from this church.

JAKE: So, this is a church thing?

ANDREW: Yeah. It’s a church thing. Our families all go to this
church.

SHELLY: Mine don’t.

JUSTIN: Shut up!

KYLE: Sorry. We just don’t have room for any more. Besides, it
would make the teams uneven.

JAKE: Yeah… whatever. We’re outa here. (They exit)

REBECCA: That was weird.

SARA: Why would they want to play with us… they don’t even know us!

ROBBIE: Let’s forget them and get back to our game.
