The Food Was Good… But!

$5.00

This skit is about complaining. We all do it, and you will hear yourself in some of these lines.

The first couple are complaining about service at a restaurant, the second about the weather, and the third scene finds someone complaining about things that are going on at their church. Unknown to them, the person listening was about to come to their church for a visit. Sometimes our complaining will do more harm than we realize.

7 actors (male or female – gender not important) About 10 minutes long.

Excerpt:

LESLIE
Did you go out last night?
SEAN
Yeah.
LESLIE
You don’t sound too happy. Was it bad?
SEAN
No…it was just the same place we go all the time. I think we are in a rut. The food was good…
LESLIE
But.
SEAN
Huh?
LESLIE
The food was good…but!
SEAN
Yeah…right! The food was good, but the service was lousy! We had the worst waitress! She just couldn’t get anything right. We kept calling her back because she would forget stuff.
LESLIE
I hate when that happens.
SEAN
And what’s more…they sat us right next to the smoking section! You know, when you walk in and say, “non-smoking please”, they should know that you don’t want to be put right next to the smokers. So I spent the whole time breathing some lady’s smoke.
LESLIE
I just couldn’t do that.
SEAN
You know…smoke doesn’t know how to stay in it’s section.
LESLIE
That’s right. Smoke can’t read. Listen to this…we went out the other night, and some kid at the next table was coughing his little head off!
SEAN
You mean, he was sick?
LESLIE
Sounded pretty sick to me!
SEAN
Why do parents take sick children out in public?
LESLIE
The thing was… he kept coughing in my direction! You know how kids don’t cover their mouths! I’m sure germs were getting on my food!
SEAN
Oooh…not good. That’s probably worse than smoke.
LESLIE
Some people just don’t know how to be good parents.
SEAN
I hear ya. I don’t know how they can afford to take their kids out to eat anyway!
LESLIE
Well, it could cost you more to hire a sitter.
SEAN
Oh! Tell me about it. I can’t believe what we spent in sitters last month! We got one last night so we could enjoy our night out, and of course the girl I got doesn’t drive yet, so I had to go get her and take her back home.
LESLIE
With the cost of gas…you have to take that into consideration!
SEAN
Right! And when you are spending all that money just to have a nice night out…you want things to be pleasant. It just wasn’t! I think we sat at our table for 15 minutes before the waitress even came to take our order! She had this whole attitude thing going, too.
LESLIE
Makes you not want to tip them, huh?
SEAN
That’s another thing! I gave her a large bill and she had the nerve to ask if I wanted change from that? Like I’m going to give her all my change as a tip! That’s up to me to decide!
LESLIE
What drives me crazy is when you are all ready to go and they take forever coming back to your table to get your money.
SEAN
Exactly! And we were almost late to the movie theater!
LESLIE
There is nothing I hate more than walking into a movie after it has started.
