The Love Festival

$25.00

This is a series of short sketches about love and marriage that would be perfect for a VALENTINE BANQUET or a dinner theater. We did this back in the mid ’80’s and it was a lot of fun. To make it even better, we added a lot of musical numbers between the sketches, mostly Christian love songs and a few secular ones. There is a simple gospel message in one of the “Bride and Groom” monologues.

The first sketch is called “Sparks” and it is about a young couple who are becoming attracted to each other, but not wanting to express it. “First Baby” is about a young married couple’s feelings just before the birth of their first child. “Our Kids Are Getting Married” is a sketch where you watch 2 families at the same time on the morning that their kids are to be married. The final sketch is an elderly couple talking about their family entitled, “Leaving A Legacy.” These four sketches can be purchased separately, but it is a better deal to buy this one and have them all. You can look for them in the skit and love categories.  Most of the skits have humorous lines mixed in. The script is about 45 minutes in length.(9 actors and 8 actresses, some parts can be doubled)

Excerpt:

SHE: Well, you certainly were not calm last night. I said I was
having contractions and you went totally bananas! You were so nervous
last night that I couldn’t help but laugh at you.HE: It wasn’t funny.SHE: I thought it was. I think you were nervous enough for the
both of us.

HE: I’m trying to get you ready to go, and you’re standing
there laughing at me.

SHE: I couldn’t believe you were packing that suitcase! You
knew that I had one all ready for over a week now.

HE: So I forgot.

SHE: You forgot a lot of things! I thought you were going to
forget me! I realize now that you were just backing the car out of
the driveway to get ready for me. But I was already to go; I could
have easily gotten in the car when you did. Lucky for you, I remembered
your shoes; you would have looked pretty silly at the hospital without
them. But I’m glad it all happened, because now we will be better
prepared when it really does happen. And hopefully, you will be much
calmer. Honey, I really want you to be in the delivery room with me.

HE: Oh yeah, me too. But last night, the doctor took one look
at me and said, “You wait out here.” Then I heard him say to a nurse,
“all we need is a husband passing out on us”

SHE: Well, at least you didn’t miss anything. Next time, it will
be better

HE: Next time, it better be for real! I just hope I get a
good night’s rest first. When I haven’t had sleep, I am just a wreck!
Do you mind if I go right to bed after dinner?

SHE: About dinner….I’m wondering if maybe…. (Another pain)
uuhhh.

HE: What is it, a pain? Are you having a pain? Honey, are you
all right? Here, sit down. Do your breathing. Can I get you something?
Is it better? (She nods) Okay, good. Everything’s okay. We will remain
calm, just like we said. Okay? I’m calm. I’m not panicking. See how
calm I am? After all, it’s just the first one. You may not have any
more for quite some time. Just like last night. Probably a false alarm
….
what were you saying about dinner?

SHE: You better call Dr. Sorensen.

HE: About dinner? I thought we were going to have him over after
the baby was born.

SHE: No silly, to meet us at the hospital. I think it’s time.

HE: We just talked about this. We must be sensible and make
absolutely sure! Why are you looking at your watch?

SHE: I’ve been having the pains for several hours. They have been
coming regularly and more
intense each time. I was hoping you would get home in time.

HE: What???!!! Why didn’t you tell me?SHE: I’m telling you now. I wanted to wait until I was absolutely
sure, like you said. And these pains are contractions, I’m sure they
are. They are a lot worse than before. And a lot closer together, in
fact we have no time to lose.HE: How close? How many minutes?

SHE: Just a few, so we should get going. This little girl wants to
come out!

HE: What? Just a few? Oh no.

SHE: Oh, yes. So don’t panic. You better call the hospital, I think
Dr. Sorensen is working tonight, but you had better let them know we
are coming.

HE: Okay, (he tries to dial but is too shaky and can’t get it right)
Hello? Is this the hospital? What? Sorry… wrong number. (Tries
again) Hello… did you say you were the hospital? Good! My wife is
having a baby! We’ll be right there; (hangs up) that’s done, now what?

SHE: You didn’t give them our name. Oh well, something tells me they
will know who it is. I think everyone on staff at that place heard your
voice last night. I hope there’s enough gas in the car…

HE: Oh, no, I think there’s only a half a tank I’ll go get some.

SHE: That’s plenty, and don’t panic.

HE: Will you stop telling me to don’t panic? It’s making me panic.
I can’t remember anything that we’re supposed to do… oh, the suitcase…
is it packed? (She: Yes) Where is it? (She: In the car) I’ll go get it….

SHE: Leave it there. Calm down!

HE: Stop saying calm down. I am perfectly clalm…calm… I’m …
I’m just a bit nervous…that’s all. Just nervous… I mean, you’re
about to have a baby, I am about to become a father…you’re about to
become a mother and the baby is about to become… well… a baby! I
have every right to get excited…oh boy…. oh boy….what if it’s a
boy! I can’t calm myself down, you better drive.

SHE: Very funny. Would you go and get my coat? We are wasting time.

HE: What if the car won’t start? What if we have to call a taxi?
Oh
I just remembered something very important. We should pray. I mean a
beautiful thing is happening here: A new life, a miracle.

SHE: It will be happening right here if we don’t get moving.

HE: You don’t want to pray????

SHE: We’ll pray in the car, on the way.

HE: But I’m driving the car!

SHE: You drive….I’ll pray….let’s go… (Another pain)
oooohhhhhhh
……

HE: Is it coming? Are you having the baby? Oh Dear God, no please…
not here….please Father…, help me…I don’t know what to do…
Okay, so I know what to do, but I don’t think I can do it……

She: Do you think you could drive the car and get the three of us
safely to the hospital?

He: Who else is coming? We don’t have time to stop and get your
mother; I’ll call her when we get to the hospital. Or should I call
her now, and then she could meet us there.

She: Call her later; I was talking about the baby. Now, can we
please go? I really don’t know how much longer I’ve got and I would
like to have this baby in a hospital bed.
