Over 90 minutes of material and with added musical numbers would make a 2 hour plus program. Use as many or as few actors as you like. About 30 different characters are portrayed. Can be shortened or expanded easily.
Excerpt:
Paul Revere’s Ride
Listen, my children, and you shall hear
Of the midnight ride of Paul Revere,
On the eighteenth of April, in Seventy-five:
Hardly a man is now alive
Who remembers that famous day and year.
God Save the Flag
Washed in the blood of the brave and the blooming,
Snatched from the altars of insolent foes,
Burning with star-fires, but never consuming,
Flash its broad ribbons of lily and rose.
Betsy Ross
(Drama or Reader’s Theater style)
BETSY: Come in, Gentlemen. Mr. Washington… Mr. Morris… Uncle George.
GEORGE WASHINGTON: Mrs. Ross, how is your upholstery business doing?
BETSY: Well, the Lord is good and He provides for all my needs. It
is not a lucrative business, but I get by.
GEORGE WASHINGTON: We would hope that you would tell us or someone
at Christ Church if you are ever in need. You know it is the church’s
duty to watch over all widows.
BETSY: Thank you.
Flag of the Free
Look at the flag as it floats on high,
Streaming aloft in the clear, blue sky,
Rippling, leaping, tugging away,
Gay as the sunshine, bright as the day,
Throbbing with life, where the world may see-
Flag of our country, flag of the free!
What do we see in the flag on high,
That we bare our heads as it passes by,
That we thrill with pride, our hearts beat fast,
And we cheer and cheer as the flag goes past-
The flag that waves for you and me-
Flag of our country, flag of the free?
A Nation’s Strength
What makes a nation’s pillars high
And it’s foundations strong?
What makes it mighty to defy
The foes that round it throng?
George Washington
Soldier and statesman, rarest unison;
High-poised example of great duties done
Simply as breathing, a world’s honors worn
As life’s indifferent gifts to all men born;
BENJAMIN FRANKLIN
(PRESENTATION)
1ST NARRATOR: Benjamin Franklin was born on January 17, 1706 in
Boston Massachusetts. In 1718, he was an apprentice with his brother
James in a printing shop. In1728, he opened his own printing shop

He died in 1790 in Philadelphia.
It is the duty of nations, as well as of men, to own their dependence
upon the overruling power of God and to recognize the sublime truth
announced in the Holy Scriptures and proven by all history, that
those nations only are blessed whose God is the Lord.
…Abraham Lincoln
Freedom
Freedom is a breath of air,
Pine-scented, or salty like the sea;
Freedom is a field new-plowed…
Furrows of democracy!
