Hit And Run

$5.00

A very dramatic sketch about drinking and driving. There is not a strong spiritual message here, but one of the dangers of drinking.

SKU: 089 Categories: , Tag:

A young couple were drinking and got involved in a hit and run accident. The girl doesn’t remember anything, and the boy confesses to his mother that it was his fault. Her parents are naturally upset, and her mother does not want to contact the police. The police finally come and the daughter admits to being the driver. The father feels convicted that his bad example of social drinking has led his daughter to this situation.

Two males and three females plus the officer. (could be either) Runs about 13-15 mins.

Excerpt:

(Scene opens with a kitchen scene and the Dad, JUSTIN, is sitting at
the table reading the newspaper. Mom, STACY, is having a cup of
coffee. DANNI enters with a bad headache.)STACY: Good morning! You were certainly out late last night.DANNI: Did you wait up?STACY: A parent can’t go to sleep until all of her children are safe
at home.DANNI: Sorry Mother. I guess we were really late. I don’t remember.

JUSTIN: (Putting his paper down.) You don’t even remember what time
it was? You expect me to believe that? Look at you…you look awful.

DANNI: I just got up.

JUSTIN: You look like you’re hung over to me.

STACY: Justin! What a thing to say!

JUSTIN: You think I can’t tell when someone’s been drinking? You
are old enough to know better than that, Danni. (He goes back to his
paper)

STACY: Where did you and Louie go last night?

DANNI: I don’t remember.

JUSTIN: See? She got herself drunk. You know, Danni, when you
drink that much, you lose control over your body, over your judgment,
over everything. And now you are hung over and you don’t remember
anything. You need to learn your limits.

STACY: I hope Louie wasn’t driving drunk. Was he? (DANNI is getting
herself some coffee and not saying anything.)

JUSTIN: She doesn’t remember.

STACY: I just don’t understand people that drink that much. I’ve
never been drunk in my life.

JUSTIN: She needs to learn how to discern just how much liquor she
can hold.

STACY: Or stop drinking altogether.

JUSTIN: Wow! Listen to this. (Looks at paper and summarizes) There
was a hit and run accident last night right over here on Magnolia.
Some kid got hit on his bike after 1AM. Someone heard it and came
out and found the boy. He was rushed to the hospital and he is in
critical condition.

STACY: Do they say who did it?

JUSTIN: No, it was hit and run. Weren’t you listening? Whoever did
it drove off.

STACY: What was that kid out riding his bike after dark for anyway?
They probably didn’t see him.

JUSTIN: But still, you don’t drive off.

DANNI: Dancing.

STACY: What?

DANNI: We went dancing. I just remembered.

(A doorbell rings or a knock on the door)

STACY: Who could that be at this hour in the morning? (She exits)

JUSTIN: Just how many drinks did you have last night?

DANNI: I don’t know…Not very many.

JUSTIN: If that is true, then you can’t hold your liquor. What were
you drinking?

DANNI: Dad, I don’t know. I don’t remember.

STACY: (Enters) Danni…Louie is here.

DANNI: Louie?!

STACY: You might as well come in the kitchen… this is where we hang
out in the mornings. (LOUIE and MORGAN enter)

DANNI: Louie what are you doing here?

STACY: Morgan this is my husband, Justin.

JUSTIN: (Rises and shakes her hand) How do you do? What’s going on?

LOUIE: (Clearly upset) Danni, did you tell them?

DANNI: Tell them what?

LOUIE: You know, what happened?

DANNI: What are you talking about?

STACY: Louie, Danni says she doesn’t remember anything about last
night except that you went dancing. She had far too much to drink,
apparently.

JUSTIN: You let my daughter get drunk, Louie.

MORGAN: Is that all she told you…that they got drunk?

JUSTIN: She didn’t have to tell us. She is clearly hung over. I
know a hang over when I see one.

MORGAN: Go ahead, Louie. Tell them what you told me.

LOUIE: Danni, don’t you remember?

DANNI: Remember what?

LOUIE: The accident.

STACY: You got in an accident?

MORGAN: This is pretty serious. Louie, you need to just tell them.

JUSTIN: What happened, Louie?

LOUIE: (Very nervous, trembling and upset) We were driving home.
We had the music on pretty loud and it was late. Suddenly there was
this kid. I don’t know where he came from! He was on a bike and he
was suddenly there… I tried to swerve… I think I hit the brakes…
Danni started screaming and I stopped the car completely. But I
could tell that I hit something.
