Our Church Has Talent

$10.00

If your church is putting together a little Christmas talent show and you need a drama to go between the songs… this could be the one for you. A group of young people are waiting around at the dress rehearsal and they begin to talk about the real meaning of Christmas.

One girl is very argumentative and they soon figure out that she doesn’t even know Christ as her Savior. The discussion moves forward as this girl sees her need and gets saved at the end. It is written for mostly teen aged girls, but some of the characters can be changed to boys. The songs are your own choosing.8 speaking parts. Written as one male and 7 females. About 15 minutes of dialog.

Excerpt:
CATIE
I always loved that song! It makes me want to cry.
EMMA
I don’t get it.
CATIE
You don’t get why it makes me want to cry?
EMMA
No! I don’t get the song!
CATIE
Oh.
BECCA
Maybe you should try to see the movie. That might help.
EMMA
Maybe…it’s just that I don’t see the big thing about the kid’s mother dying and then seeing Jesus.
CATIE
That’s what makes me cry! It’s sad, and yet happy at the same time.
EMMA
Okay…I get sad! But happy? There ain’t nothing happy about this poor little kid’s mother dying. That’s the part I don’t get! So, she meets Jesus…because she died, right? Nothing good about that! Nothing to be happy about.
JENNIFER
Don’t you want to meet Jesus when you die?
EMMA
I don’t want to die! This is not a happy topic! Christmas is supposed to be about being happy, right? You know… Jingle Bells and Frosty the Snowman.
JENNIFER
Frosty leaves at the end of the story and so it’s kind of sad, too.
EMMA
Okay…okay! Bad example! I’m just saying!
BECCA
I think you are missing the point, Emma.
EMMA
And what is that?
BECCA
That Christmas is all about Jesus.
EMMA
It’s not ALL about Jesus! There is a lot more to Christmas …that has nothing at all to do with Jesus! The presents, the tree, the decorations…
JENNIFER
Oh, you’re talking about Muss.
EMMA
What?
JENNIFER
Muss!
EMMA
What’s muss?
JENNIFER
Christmas without Christ. Take Christ out of Christmas and you are left with Muss.
EMMA
That’s the dumbest thing I ever heard!
JENNIFER
I agree. You can’t take Christ out of Christmas. Christmas is the story of Christ.
EMMA
And where does Santa Claus fit into that whole thing?
JENNIFER
Yeah…right…where does he?
TANYA
I know. Santa brings gifts, and the gifts represent the gifts that the wise men brought to Jesus.
EMMA
Wow. That’s a stretch!
JENNIFER
Yeah, Tanya. I think you would have a hard time making that theory work.
LORI
I believe the origin of Santa Claus was from a man named Saint Nicholas, who gave gifts to children a long time ago. He was a good man and probably did it for Christian reasons, but today, we have gotten far from that.
TANYA
So, that’s where they get Jolly Old Saint Nicholas.
LORI
Yeah… and if you say Santa Claus a whole bunch of times really fast, it will start sounding like Saint Nicholas.
EMMA
Well…no one has convinced me yet. The story of Jesus in the manger and all that is only a small part of Christmas. There is a lot more that isn’t about that at all. I bet most people don’t even think about ‘the baby in the manger thing’ at Christmas time.
BECCA
Oh…you’re right there. Plus there are all the other countries in the world where they follow other religions and don’t believe in Christ, so if they celebrate Christmas at all, it isn’t about Jesus. Probably more people in the world believe in Santa Claus, Saint Nicholas or Father Christmas… than Jesus Christ.
EMMA
Right. So you admit it. The story of Jesus at Christmas time isn’t very popular.
BECCA
Not being popular doesn’t make it any less real.
