THE PROPHECY
Compiled from the book of Isaiah (NAS) and written by Warren Sager

(A man is humped over a chair or a rock in prayer… he stops and looks up into heaven as if to say ‘thank you’ to God and slowly rises. He is dressed in biblical time garments and has a full beard, perhaps long and gray. He walks forward toward the audience.)

I am Isaiah, the son of Amoz, the prophet of God. God has spoken to me, and has given to me His message for the people, and it is my duty to proclaim that message. You may be asking yourself, “How do I know this man is truly a prophet of God?” Well, let me tell you how God has spoken to me. There was a vision: In the year of King Uzziah’s death, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, lofty and exalted, with the train of His robe filling the temple. Then I said, “Woe is me, for I am ruined…because I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts!” Then one of the seraphim flew to me, with a burning coal in his hand and he touched my mouth with it and said, “Behold, this has touched your lips; and your iniquity is taken away, and your sin is forgiven.” Then I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for Us?” Then I said, “Here am I. SEND ME!” And He said, “Go, and tell this people.” Is. 6: 1, 5-9

The message began to come. I had to write it all down. There was so much! I would go and speak to the people. At times the message was so wonderful and amazing:

Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel. Is 7:14

A virgin with child? Immanuel! This means “God is with us!” Almighty God…. As a baby?

There was more…

The people who walk in darkness will see a great light; those who live in a dark land, the light will shine on them….
For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; and the government will rest on His shoulders; and His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.
There will be no end to the increase of His government or of peace, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness from then on and forevermore. Is. 9: 2, 6-7

Messiah!

Later, this was the message:

A voice is calling, “Clear the way for the Lord in the wilderness; make smooth in the desert a highway for our God. Let every valley be lifted up and every mountain and hill be made low; and let the rough ground become a plain, and the rugged terrain a broad valley; then the glory of the Lord will be revealed, and all flesh will see it together; FOR THE MOUTH OF THE LORD HAS SPOKEN!” Is 40:3-5

But the message began to change:

I gave My back to those who strike Me, and My cheeks to those who pluck out the beard; I did not cover My face from humiliation and spitting. Is. 50:6

What did it mean? Was the Messiah to be treated in such a way? And then…

(with joy and exuberance) Behold, My servant will prosper, He will be high and lifted up, and greatly exalted…. (Pause and change to being stunned with concern) …His appearance was marred more than any man and His form more than the sons of men.
Is. 52: 13-14

How awful!

Who has believed our message? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed? Is. 53:1

The people were not going to believe the message. I understood that this important message was going to fall on deaf ears. After that, the message was clearly stating that our Messiah was to suffer horrible things:

He was despised and forsaken of men, a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief; and like one from whom men hide their face, He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. Is. 53: 3

Surely our griefs He Himself bore, and our sorrows He carried; yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, and by His scourging we are healed. Is. 53: 4-5

All of us like sheep have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; but the Lord has caused the iniquity of us all to fall on Him. He was oppressed and He was afflicted, yet He did not open His mouth; like a lamb that is led to slaughter, and like a sheep that is silent before its shearers, so He did not open His mouth. Is. 53: 6-7

He poured out Himself to death, and was numbered with the transgressors; yet He Himself bore the sin of many, and interceded for the transgressors. Is. 53:12

This message was so powerful and so overwhelming! A Messiah, who comes as a baby, and then suffers and dies taking all our sins upon Him! Incredible! Then the message from the Messiah to all the people:

Ho! Everyone who thirsts, come to the waters…and you who have no money come, buy and eat! Incline your ear and come to Me. Listen, that you may live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you. Seek the Lord while He may be found; call on Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; and let him return to the Lord, and He will have compassion on him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon! Is. 55: 1, 3, 6-7

The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the afflicted; He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to captives, and freedom to prisoners; to proclaim the favorable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn, Is. 61:1-2

Amen. All praise be to the Almighty God!
