Excerpt:
1st Youth enters with shoe box character. 2nd Youth approaches
2ND YOUTH
What is that??
1ST YOUTH
It is the Operation Christmas Child shoe box. You fill up the box with presents and we send it off to children all over the world. You know, children who are poor and won’t get any other kind of Christmas gifts.
2ND YOUTH
Wow! What a cool idea! You are to be congratulated! You know what? This could be big!
1ST YOUTH
Oh… it wasn’t my idea.
2ND YOUTH
Oh, it wasn’t? That’s too bad, because this could be big!
1ST YOUTH
It already IS big! It started in 1993 and has reached more than 113 million children in over 140 countries with the true meaning of Christmas. It’s Samaritan’s Purse.
2ND YOUTH
DUDE! Whoever came up with this must be a millionaire by now! I bet Samaritan has a big purse!
1ST YOUTH
It’s not about making money.. It’s about giving. Isn’t that the true meaning of Christmas? God gave us Jesus, so we give to others. Here comes our first donation.
3rd Youth approaches carrying an old game
3RD YOUTH
Here is an old game that I haven’t played in years. Some kid might really enjoy it.
SHOE BOX
I’m sorry… no used or damaged items are permitted.
3rd Youth walks away sad
2ND YOUTH
I guess I can see that. I mean, that game did look rather beat up. (yells) HEY! GO BUY A NEW GAME!
4th Youth approaches with a candy bar.
SHOE BOX
I’m sorry… no chocolate or any food of any kind is permitted.
Youth walks away sad
2ND YOUTH
Hey! Can I have that candy bar!?? I mean.. If you’re not going to eat it…
5th Youth approaches (some of these youth can come more than once, so it could be 3rd again) with a bag of hard candy.
5TH YOUTH
Here is a bag of hard candy left over from last Halloween. (mumbles) Or maybe the Halloween before that…. Anyway… it’s not chocolate and everyone knows that hard candy is not really food.
SHOE BOX
I’m sorry… no out-of-date hard candy is permitted. But newer hard candy is fine, just put it in a zip-lock bag!
Youth walks away sad
2ND YOUTH
I don’t get that. I bet some kids would eat that. (Trying to get youth’s attention) I eat old candy all the time!
1ST YOUTH
There are rules.
6th Youth approaches with a can or bottle of soda
SHOE BOX
I’m sorry, but no liquids or lotions are permitted.
2ND YOUTH
I’m thirsty…
Youth walks away sad as 7th Youth approaches with a bottle of vitamins.
2ND YOUTH
I get that one. The whole ‘no liquids on the plane’ rule…
7TH YOUTH
Kids in foreign countries really need their vitamins!
SHOE BOX
I’m sorry… No medications or vitamins are permitted.
2ND YOUTH
What if the kids are sick?
1ST YOUTH
Then we send over doctors and nurses. Not pills in a box. Would you want pills in your Christmas box?
