AMANDA

Bradley!  Look!  There is a man lying over there!

BRADLEY

Oh no!

They move closer to get a closer look.

AMANDA

Is he dead?

BRADLEY

He looks dead.  Should we check?

AMANDA

He looks dead.  I don’t think you should touch him.

BRADLEY

But then how could I find out?

AMANDA

He looks dead to me!

BRADLEY

Well, we should at least call 911.

AMANDA

And then what?  We will have to wait for them to come, and we will have to give them our names.  You are TV evangelist, Bradly Baker. You can’t be mixed up in some murder!

BRADLEY

Murder!?!  Who said anything about a murder?

AMANDA

Why else would that man be lying there dead?  He looks like someone killed him.

BRADLEY

But we need to do something.  We can’t just leave him there.

AMANDA

He’s not going anywhere.  Someone else will come along…. Wait.

BRADLEY

What?

AMANDA

He looks familiar.

BRADLEY

Familiar?

AMANDA

Yes.. I have seen him somewhere.

BRADLEY

Really??

AMANDA

I know I have.  Oh no!  I think I know where!  He was in our studio audience.  Maybe more than once.  He’s a fan!

BRADLEY

I prefer to call them parishioners.

AMANDA

Well, that’s who he is.

BRADLEY

Are you sure? Now I know we should help him.

AMANDA

Absolutely not!  If they find out he attended your TV church, that ties him to you.. and then you find him dead??  It is getting worse all the time.  We need to go!

BRADLEY

I can’t believe you are talking me into this.

AMANDA

You will thank me later.  Let’s go.

They exit.  Then another person enters.

CALLEN

(on phone)

This is Dr. Callen. (Pause) Are you sure you have the right Dr. Callen?  I’m not a medical doctor, I’m a college professor. (Pause) Oh, I see. Well, perhaps the campus nurse can help with that. I really can’t control if someone gets sick in my class. (Pause).. Oh! I see.  Yes, if you reach out to my assistant, you can get all the notes from the lecture that you missed. I would also recommend reading chapter five in the book. You are in my religion class, right?

Sees the body

CALLEN

Ok…Good bye…

Looks at the body then looks at the phone.  Thinks a little bit.  Starts to push buttons.. stops.  Puts phone away.

CALLEN

Nope.  I just can’t!

Exits.  Soon a young man (or possibly woman) enters.  They look a bit rough.  See the body and move over quickly, check for a pulse, grabs phone and calls.

SAM

Yes!  I need an ambulance!  A man has been hurt bad, but he is still alive and barely breathing. He’s in the alley behind the Wilson Theater. (pause) How long??  (pause) Wow.  Ok, well, he’s not bleeding badly.  What if I just took him to my place & you came there to check him out?  You can do that?  Great.. Ok.. it’s 328 Buchanan.

Puts phone away

SAM

Hang in there my friend!  Help is on the way.  Can you hear me?  Sir? You’re going to be okay!  I will make sure of it.  I will take care of you.  You just keep breathing.
