Lost Son

$15.00

This skit is a modern day version of the parable of the lost son (prodigal son).  It is about ten minutes long and has only 3 male actors.  (one of the siblings could be played by a female)

Excerpt:

FATHER

Hey kids, I need to talk to you about something very important.  I had a will done.  I have been putting it off for years, but I finally got it done.

TRACY

I don’t know if I want to hear about this.

FATHER

It’s important.

PATRICK

We’re listening.

FATHER

Anyway, It will be in the safe upstairs if anything should happen to me.  But I will let you know now that you will both get a fair share of what I have.

PATRICK

When you’re gone.

FATHER

Of course when I’m gone. That’s what a will means.

PATRICK

By then, there will probably be a lot less, because you will want to spend it all.

FATHER

That’s silly.  No, if anything, it will continue to grow.  The longer I live, the more you’ll get.

TRACY

Dad, I don’t like talking about you dying.

FATHER

It’s a part of life, Tracy.

PATRICK

Yeah, Tracy, it’s a part of life.  So, Dad… what if say… I wanted to collect my share now, while you were still alive?

FATHER

Why would you want to do that?

TRACY

That’s just weird.

PATRICK

Hear me out.  This will especially be beneficial for you, Tracy.  Because if I take mine now, then you will get what’s left. So, if it continues to grow.. you will have a whole lot more.

FATHER

This makes no sense, Son.  You don’t need that money now.  I don’t know if you are old enough to be responsible for all of that.

PATRICK

You’ve taught us well, Dad.  I could invest it and watch it grow for just me.

FATHER

Sure.. you could.  But I doubt you would do any better than I’ve done.

PATRICK

But I’d kind of like to be on my own and show you that I can be responsible and trustworthy and that I can make you proud.

FATHER

I’m already proud of you, Patrick.

PATRICK

What do you say, Dad?  Do you know already what the amounts are?

FATHER

Well, yes, because the lawyer and I just went over everything… so it is all set in case I dropped dead tomorrow.

TRACY

Dad!

PATRICK

So what do you say?  Can we make this happen?

FATHER

I don’t think this is a very good idea, Patrick.  I know you think you would like to have a big windfall like this.. but…

PATRICK

I’ve made up my mind.  This way you won’t have to help me and I can start my life and be my own man.
