A woman falls asleep waiting for the auto club and finds herself waiting in line to have her luggage taken and shrunk down to what is actually worthwhile. (She goes from a 3 piece set to a small make-up bag) A couple of angels meet her and help her along till it’s time to wake up and realize it was all a dream. The message can be about doing those things that really count for eternity and also being ready at any time to go before the Lord.3 actors About 7-9 mins.
Excerpt:
A loud pop noise and then a thump thump. Martha pulls the car over and gets out.
MARTHA MARIE
Oh no! Not this morning!
She pulls out her cell phone and gets her card from her purse and dials the number on the back. She removes her glasses to see the number and leaves them in the car.
MARTHA MARIE
Hello, Auto Club? I need you to send out someone to change my flat tire. (Pause) yes…I’m on Beach Blvd, near the corner of Beach and Warner. (pause) Yes… in Huntington Beach. (Pause) 15 to 30 minutes!! That’s the quickest you can get here? Oh, alright, but please hurry. I need to get home and get ready to go to work!
She sits on the curb, behind the car prop. She starts getting sleepy and nods off while waiting. Suddenly there is a loud horn blowing then a voice.
RADIO VOICE (V.O.)
Come on up!
The horn blows againMARTHA MARIE
(Suddenly waking, after nodding off, still holding her phone)
What? Since when does the Auto Club honk when they arrive? I’m coming! I’m just over here…wait a minute…what is this?
She comes out from behind the car now with the white robe on. She removed her bathrobe behind the car and had the white robe on beneath.
MARTHA MARIE
What’s happening to me?
Sound of a rushing wind… if you can blow a fan on her to add to the effect. She spins around in the wind.
MARTHA MARIE
Where am I? Oh, this is really strange! I gotta tell Marge.
She looks at her phone and dials
MARTHA MARIE
Marge? Martha. You’ll never believe what is happening to me! (Pause) Well, my tire blew and I was waiting for the Auto Club when I heard this loud horn; and I heard a man’s voice calling. Naturally, I thought the Auto Club guy was honking at me, but it wasn’t that kind of horn. It was a trumpet! Then there were these sounds like a rushing wind and I got sucked away. (Pause) No, Marge… let me finish. It was like I was being sucked through a tunnel! (Pause) No, Marge. I am not having a triple latte! I didn’t even get to the coffee shop! This is caffeine…it’s…it’s….Oh my! You should see this! There are a lot of people here! No, really…more than I can count! Thousands… perhaps more. Marge! Could this be the rapture?? Come to think of it… shouldn’t YOU be here?
MICHELLE
(Entering with a small stand)
Let’s keep the line moving! Step on forward!
MARTHA MARIE
Where am I? It looks like an airport lobby. (Pause) No, I didn’t drive all the way to John Wayne. This is a lot different. Look…I better go. I’ll call you later and tell you all about it. Well, that is if I can. Wow.. I can’t believe I’m still getting a signal, here.
MICHELLE
(Waving to people)
Pick up your luggage and bring it through the station, please!
MARTHA MARIE
What luggage?
She goes to put her cell away and notices she has changed to a white robe. Gabriella enters.
GABRIELLA
Martha Marie! Come over here and I will help you pull out your luggage. Do you recognize any of these?
MARTHA MARIE
Oh yes! That one there is mine! But how did it get here? I didn’t bring it. In fact, I didn’t pack it. What’s in there? I hate it when someone else packs my suitcase. Who are you, again?
GABRIELLA
I’m Gabriella and I’m an angel.
MARTHA MARIE
Then this IS the rapture!! Or did I just die? Did I get hit by a car? Beach Blvd is so dangerous!
GABRIELLA
These are all the earthly deeds that you did during your life time. We need to take them over to the check in station. Let me take your phone, you won’t be needing that anymore.
Martha unzips a compartment
MARTHA MARIE
Oh, I remember this! It was the time I helped my friend… and this…was when…
She unzips more
MICHELLE
Let’s keep the line moving! Pick up your luggage and place it on the conveyor belt
Martha puts her luggage on the table
MICHELLE

MICHELLE
(Gabriella opens a book and finds her name)
There you are! Your name is in the Lambs book of life. Now go ahead and place your luggage on the conveyor belt and step back as it may get a little hot and smoky.
The luggage goes through something like a curtain and disappears and they pull out a small bag the size of a make-up bag.
MARTHA MARIE
Where is my other luggage? Where did it all go? What’s that? I don’t understand what is happening here.
MICHELLE
Read the sign.
MARTHA MARIE
What sign? That sign way up there? I’ll need my glasses to read that far… where are my glasses?
MICHELLE
No need for glasses here. Just read the sign.
MARTHA MARIE
Oh, you’re right. I can see it clearly!
(Reads)
“each one’s work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one’s work, of what sort it is. If anyone’s work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward.
If anyone’s work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved,
yet so as through fire”. I Corinthians 3:13-15
