Excerpt:

Mrs. Claus: …I guess you all know about his laugh. Ho Ho Ho… Merry Christmas! Well, I have to tell you that it gets very old when you hear it all the time! I say, “here’s your dinner, honey… and he says… “ho ho ho! thank you, my dear!” and I tell him about a hangnail I got and he says… “don’t worry about it… it’ll be okay… ho ho ho!” and when the dog did his thing on the floor again…. and in the living room, mind you! He just said… “oh the little dickens… I better take him outside… ho ho ho! After I clean it up, of course!! Ho ho ho!!” Well… I finally had just about all I could take. I decided I needed to have a talk with the old man. I said… “could you please not be so jolly all the time?? I can’t take all the laughing about everything!!” And he said, “ What do you mean, my dear? Ho ho ho!” and I said… “that! That’s what I mean!! There was nothing funny about what I just said… but you still laughed!” So, he said that he would really try hard to stop laughing. So… for an entire day… Santa did not laugh! Not even once! I think it must have been killing him! At first, I didn’t really notice… but then I realized he wasn’t laughing and I thought… “oh finally! This is nice!” But then… it got weird. All the elves were very sad. The reindeer were sad… and I noticed that even he was sad. And with all that sadness around me… well… guess what?? I got sad, too! It was a very long and very sad day!! So, the next day, I had to tell him: “Please start laughing again! I was wrong! When you don’t laugh… everyone is so sad! I would much rather hear you laugh all the time than have this quiet sadness!” And do you know what he said to me? He said, “I would be happy to laugh again. Do me a favor and say something funny.” Well…. do you think I could think of something funny?? My mind was completely blank!!…
