Picking Up The Pieces

$5.00

This is a monologue of someone who is at the end of their rope. The entire script runs about 20 minutes, but you can easily cut parts out to make it just about any length that you need. For instance, if you don’t want to do the suicidal part, that can be easily cut out.

It is full of drama and emotion as this struggling human is crying out to God and trying to cope with their life. The end is rewarding.

One actor. Anywhere from a few minutes to 20 minutes in length.

Excerpt:

My life used to matter… or at least I thought it did. But where is that now? What can you do for me now? It looks pretty hopeless to me! Well look… I need to go. (Pulls out a handgun) Don’t blame me for what I need to do. I’ve thought long and hard about it. (Staring out… glaring eyes… showing the audience that he really does see something) Don’t look at me that way! I can’t stand it if you look at me that way! Don’t you see? There is no other way. I have given this faith thing my best shot – I can’t keep believing – I -I – I just want it to end – What? (Pause….he hears God speaking to his heart. Probably not audible, unless that is what you want, but give time during the pauses for him to hear these words speak to him) (I haven’t given up.) What did you say? (Pause) (I haven’t given up on you, I still believe in you.) You haven’t given up. You still believe in me! Come on! Don’t concern yourself… (Pause)(I will never leave you or forsake you.) STOP SAYING I WILL NEVER LEAVE YOU! It’s not like I can grab your arm or touch your clothes or look into your eyes. If you are with me all the time… how come I don’t feel you here with me? I don’t think I want you here with me. No, I don’t! I want you far away! Please… just go! Go far away! GO! LOVE SOMEONE ELSE!!!!! (Pause) (I will always love you. I will never leave you.) What? You’ll always love me? You will never leave me? Am I supposed to believe that? I can’t see it! I can’t feel it! (Pause) (Do not fear, I am with you, do not anxiously look about you, I will hold you up.) Do not fear? You are with me? Don’t be anxious? You are holding me up? I’ve heard all of this before! I don’t think it is helping! (Pause…then sarcastically) (I will strengthen you. I will help you.) You’ll strengthen me! You’ll help me! (Pause) (Be strong and let your heart take courage.) Don’t tell me to be strong! Don’t tell me to be encouraged! It is all empty words now! Can’t you see that it has not worked with me? Can’t you see that it is all over for me? It’s no use! (Pause) (Let not your heart be troubled…) Let not my heart be troubled… well, that is easy to say… but…. (Pause) (You believe in God, believe also in me.) I do believe in you. I have believed in you for many years! Do I have to stop believing? Is that how I can get you out of my life? Or is this how? (Puts gun to his head) (You are precious in my sight. I am not finished with you yet.) How is my life precious to you? What do you mean; you are not finished with me? I am finished with you! At least I am finished with me! (Pause) (Ask and you will receive.) Ask? Just ask? But I have! I don’t get answers! I told you that! You have not answered why! Why would you take my sister from me?? Why would you ruin my life? Okay… you want to talk? Alright! We’ll talk! (Pause… lowers the gun and just plays with it)
