Recently, a customer who had just purchased one of my Christian plays, emailed me. She told me that she works with a lot of students who are looking for short pieces that they can use in competitions. I do know that a lot of my monologues are used for such competitions. Some people hire a playwright to write them a particular monologue. It does cost a little more for a custom written script, but then you have just what you want. However, I realize that not everyone has the funds to hire someone to write them a script. So, I decided to just write a blog and put the word out there that I am looking for suggestions. If there is a Biblical character, hero of the faith, a well known missionary or some such famous person that you would like to see on the site, please let me know. I may have to do some research, but I hopefully can find enough information to formulate a less than 10 minute monologue.
If it is a full length play you are wanting, well, that takes more time, research and does cost more. I have been tossing around the idea of taking my 25 minute play about Fannie Crosby and turning it into a full length hour-long play. (I did that for Gladys Aylward and Corrie ten Boom) I’ve also thought about doing plays about Annie Armstrong or Lottie Moon for all the Southern Baptists out there. But I wonder if there are any churches who even want to tell their stories. When I first started this website and began to sell Christian scripts, I thought about writing a version of “Pilgrim’s Progress”. I have yet to undertake that project, but I wonder whether there is a market for that story in play form. I’m sure there are probably some versions out there.
So, if you are looking for a Christian play on a particular subject or about a particular person in history, please let me know. Of course, I am always available for custom writing projects, but if you are not pressed for time, you might consider just contacting me with your ideas. I am open for suggestions. Just think of this as a Hymn Sing night at your church, and yes, the piano player is taking requests.
