The Christmas List

$10.00

When Mom looks at the Christmas lists of her two teenage daughters, it sparks a conversation about what is really important. Based on Philippians 3:7-8, they talk about how all the stuff that they have accumulated over the years, is all rubbish in comparison to knowing Christ.

This could easily be done as father and kids, any gender would work.  3 actors, (1 adult, 2 teens) About 6 mins.

Excerpt:

JULIANNA
Hey Mom…it’s Christmas! The time of year we get new stuff! Isn’t that what it’s all about? (Pause) That wasn’t exactly what I meant to say.
JESSICA
Way to go! You just told Mom that you think Christmas is all about getting more stuff!
JULIANNA
But I didn’t mean it!
MOTHER
Sure you did. We all do. I’m not blaming you. I think it is a very easy trap for us to fall into. We all do it. Your father and I have our lists, too.
JULIANNA
So, you’re saying that I came by it naturally. That I’m just like you.
JESSICA
Julianna!
MOTHER
No…your sister is right. We’ve set the example for you. You’re only making your lists because we’ll buy you a lot of the things on there. That’s why we have so much stuff in our house. Don’t you two already have most of this stuff?
JESSICA
Those are just the newest and latest things. You’re right… we have a lot of music, we have a lot of movies and we have a lot of games.
JULIANNA
And we have a lot of clothes. But it’s Christmas, and we always get new stuff at Christmas.
MOTHER
I know. And you will again this year. It just hit me hard when I saw the list and then heard you say that this is what it’s all about.
JULIANNA
I’m sorry I said that Mom. I do know what Christmas is really all about.
MOTHER
What?
JULIANNA
Jesus’ birthday.
MOTHER
And that’s it?
JULIANNA
No…we celebrate His birth because that reminds us that God sent us His Son to die on the cross for our sins.
MOTHER
And that’s it?
JULIANNA
What else do you want me to say?
MOTHER
I don’t know. Maybe I just want you to think about it for awhile. Look at all the things we have! Look at all the possessions that we have around our home!
JESSICA
And there are people all over the world who have nothing and are starving, or have no clothes to wear.
MOTHER
That’s right, but we can’t deny that here in America we have prosperity and skills and experience. We are blessed. I’m not concerned about the wealth part as much as how that effects our spiritual lives.
JESSICA
You mean like not remembering what Christmas is about?
JULIANNA
I didn’t forget… I just misspoke!
