Bringing Drama Back to the Church

It’s been awhile since we have done any drama at our church, but the pastors know how much I enjoy doing that. Recently, the children’s ministry director asked me to meet with her to talk about Easter. She had a script with some interesting ideas for Children’s church on Easter Sunday. We put the word out and ended up with 2 other adults other than myself and the director, plus about 6 youth. Leanne and I did the skit and read the Easter story. Travis directed the youth to act out the story in pantomime. The kids wore all black with LED lights fastened on themselves so that they glowed like lit stick people in the dark. It all turned out great and people seemed to really love it.

Travis and I were discussing on Sunday how we would love to see this happening far more often. Not only for the kids, but also for the main service. But, it takes a team. 4 adults and six teens was barely enough to pull this off. Travis had his daughter there to help with stuff backstage. This was a small production, but I have been involved in big productions that took a lot of volunteers to make it happen. Hopefully, the word will get out that we did something special that the kids loved. I had two of the pastors comment on how much they enjoyed seeing it. I think someone shot a video, so I am looking forward to seeing it myself.

If you have a love for drama in the church, I hope that you will be able to see things happening in your church very soon. I think it is such a rewarding ministry.
