John In Exile

$15.00

This is a one man play (monologue) about the Apostle John as an old man in Exile on the Isle of Patmos, telling his story about how he became a follower of Jesus.  He shares highlights from his experiences and then shares a lot about his visions there on Patmos and much scripture from Revelation.  Scripture is also quoted from the books of John and 1 John.  Versions used were ESV and NLT.

This script is about 20-25 mins long but can easily be shortened by removing sections from it.

(Using ESV and NLT versions for scriptures)

(John appears and he is very old.  He is on the Isle of Patmos and begins to talk to the audience)

You may not know who I am, but my name is John, being an apostle of Jesus Christ.  I am known as the beloved disciple or the disciple that Jesus loved.  You may have a problem with me calling myself that.  You might think, “ what makes me so special that I can be the one whom Jesus loved?”  Well, let me tell you that it meant a lot to me to know that Jesus, my Savior and Lord, loves me.  He loved all the disciples of course, and all of us the same, even Judas.  But I was the one who wrote it down.  He loves you, too.  All of you.  He loves you all the same.  He loved you enough to go to the cross for you and die for you.  That is what He did for me.  So, you can also call yourself the one whom Jesus loves.  In fact, I want you to say it right now.  Repeat after me: I AM THE ONE WHOM JESUS LOVES (they repeat it) Say it again and really mean it! (I am the one whom Jesus loves).  Good.  Jesus said, “As the Father has loved me so have I loved you.  Abide in my love.” And I tell you, “By this we know love, that He laid down His life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers.”  (Pause)  I need to start at the beginning.

How about the very beginning?  “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  He was in the beginning with God.  All things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made.  And the Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”  Yes… that is Jesus….
